The clash between BEM, the boys from across the river in the north bank region, and the west coast region settlement of Brufut was the last game of the super “nawettan” group stage matches.

It was more of fighting for top spot in group D, than say a real battle for survival. Their approach to the game shows BEM were more eager for that spot, as Brufut, who irrespective of the outcome, will still advance with their six points.

Two second have goals was all BEM needed to sealed a two nil result and advance as group winners. Forward Amadou Jallow open the scoring for BEM with a simple tap from Dodou Nyang’s pass in the box, before Dodou Nyang himself step up to double the lead from penalty spot after a foul.

Even thought midway through the second half BEM were handed a numerical advantage as Brufut’s Yaya Jatta was sent off for a second bookable offence, but the ferry boys could not add to their lead as the tie ends two nil to BEM at the Serrekunda West park.

BEM finishes as group D winners with 8 points and Brufut second with six points.

Forty game played between 20 zones at the group stage and a total of 78 goals scored. Statistically after 3,600 minutes of football, on average, 1.95 goal is scored per game, that is goal per minute ratio of 46.1. Brikama who finishes second in group D are the highest scoring zone with eight goals in four games, whiles the city boys Banjul are the lowest scoring side as they managed one goal in four outing. Manjai and Kombo East are the only side to have secure 10 points in four games.

The campaign though was all agony for some notable names. The city boys Banjul had a disappointing campaign as they finish bottom of group D with a mere 3 point out of the possible twelve. 2011 champions Lamin could not progress from group C as they lost three games, securing only one win. 2016 champions Gunjur also had their life cut short as they occupied 3rd position in group D. another side to have taken an early exit at the group stage, is Sukuta, who has been one of the most consistent side in the super nawettan since 2011.

Serrekunda East Zonal Team

The quarter final brings some intriguing as group B winners Kombo East will clash with Brufut on Saturday 23 November at Boxbar mini stadium. On the same day in the Serrekunda derby, defending champions Serrekunda East will take on Serrekunda West at the Manjai park. On Sunday the 24th of November group C winners Manjai will battle it out with Bakau at the West park while BEM will wrap up the last eight ties will Brikama at the East park.
