After a rather dismal campaign in GFF division one league, Hawks hopes of a silver ware came to an end with a 2 - 1 lost to struggling PSV Wellingara in the football federation cup quarter finals.

PSV Wellingara FC

PSV first took the lead through Ebou Ceesay’s freekick and Modou Lamin Jarju responded for Hawks with a close-range finish, but it was the Wellingara based team whose supporters celebrated a victory at the Independence stadium, as substitute Lamin Kinteh sealed a 2 – 1 win for PSV with a simple tap.

The league campaign ends with Hawks finishing in the 6th position and PSV at the bottom of the table. It was a chance for the two side to redeem their season.

Coming in the game hawks were with all the hopes that they can take advantage of PSV Wellingara's poor run of form, the way they started, shows all indications that it was going to be a bad evening for PSV.

Hawks created and missed so many half chances, most of which were within a goal scoring distance in the first twenty minutes, including a half volley from Ousman Gomez which stroke the woodwork.

It was the irony of ironies as PSV broke the deadlock. Fabakary Touray was brought down at the edge of the box as he attempts a curled and Ebou Ceesay curled in sublime freekick into top room. It was a delightful free-kick that can beat any goalkeeper in the world.

Hawks knowing the task was not going to be easy as PSV were willing to win in any way possible, be it ugly or impressive; they further improved their urgency in chasing an equalizer which duly arrived before the break when Modou Lamin Jarju beat the trap and easily side footed home from close range.

With time running out and penalty shootout edging close in the second half, Hawks tried to force issues and in the process came very close when a quick exchange of passes saw a shot from Matarr Badjie palmed out by PSV goalkeeper Musa Manneh who had been their man of the match.

Three minutes after that PSV hit on a counter attack as Lamin Fadera beats the trap with his galloping runs and had a shot saved but a follow up was tap home by the substitute Lamin Kinteh to make.

At that time it was only 8 minutes on the regulation time and Hawks had not make any substitutions yet, they quickly responded by throwing in all their three permitted substitute in pursuit of a goal but it appeared too little too late.

Instead it was PSV who should have make the score embarrassing in the closing stages when Lamin Kinteh hit on a solo counter attack, but the goalkeeper did well to denied conceding a third as he saved well a close range shot as the tie ended 2 - 1 to PSV.

The win was celebrated by the entire team as they punched into the air in jubilant fashion.
