MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENT FOR THE-PUB FC IN GUNJUR NAWETTAN

Not only did they completed a double but they became the first team from Siffoe village to do so in the history of Gunjur nawettan and they just did in a remarkable fashion, unbeaten from start to the end.

Having shown their strength to all the teams they faced en-route to Saturday’s final, Ecomog were the last barrier between The-pub and their milestone.
The fact that both teams (Ecomog and The-pub) are from Siffoe, the tie was never expected to be an easy one and so it proved. It was not just tight but equally tense from the off as Ecomog had right back Zorome Demba sent off with a straight red as early as 5 minutes for a harsh tackle.
As the case in their previous games, The-pub shown commitment and exposure to utilize the numerical difference and took the lead on the 43rd minutes. Malang Ceesay the young lad who was the scorer of their goal in their emphatic one nil win against Reliance in the knockout final fortnight ago, again put The-pub in front with a beautiful strike.

Knowing fully well not only the huge prize is at stake in the finals, but equally the local pride and reputation back home in Siffoe is heavily weighing on the two side, Ecomog then start to improve their urgency and fighting spirit.
They came close in the process with Moses Preirra missing two goal mouth chances before substitute Lamin Sambou forced-off a diving save from The-pub custodian Alieu Ceesay. As Ecomog keep pushing for the equalizer, The-pub continue to play in their usual composed fashion in so doing wait to exploit gaps at the defense of Ecomog.
The-pub style of play was always going to bear fruit and their second which left Ecomog supporters desperate, arrived in the closing stages. Forward Musa Bojang capitalized on Ecomog failure to clear their line and fired into the bottom right corner of Vincent Yahya Demba’s net to complete a historic 2 – 0 win for The-pub.
Speaking to the press Mustapha Camara the coach of The-pub said he fulfill his promises, “you can remember at the start of the tournament I promised that I will make history in Gunjur this season and that is what exactly I did. Am happy to grab both trophies in Gunjur, is a great achievement for me”.

The coach further went on to commend Gunjur sports committee for their fair staging of the tournament. “I have to thank Gunjur sports committee for not being biased, they have allowed us to participate and as well-organized their tournament fairly”.
While for his counterpart Bubacarr Wally of Ecomog, blamed his sides defeat on a failed plan and the red card. “Having a red card as early as the fifth minutes completely destroy our game plan as we are forced to change our formation after the red. Our players were as well in a haste and they want to forcefully score goals”.

Apart from the runners up prize of fifteen-thousand dalasi’s (D15,000), The-pub scooped all the other awards, with their goalkeeper Alieu Ceesay winning Prince Emma’s award of the player of the tournament, their coach Mustapha Camara was decorated as the best coach, while the winners prize money of a trophy and twenty thousand dalasi’s (D20,000) heads to Siffoe for the first time in history.
