Winning a back to back knockout cup title might be considered an arduous challenge, but to The-Pub football club from Siffoe village it wasn’t as challenging as many thought.
They proved too strong for all the teams in entire Gunjur community, to successfully defend their knockout cup title with a deserved 1 – 0 win over Reliance FC, remarkably a milestone achievement for a club outside Gunjur.

The-Pub Captain Musa Jarju receiving the winners prize
The hope of all the Gunjur based teams were on Reliance going into the finals, as they are the only Gunjur team in a cup final in 2017/18 Gunjur ‘nawettan’ following the premature obituary of other teams at group and knockout phase.
With The-Pub being the visitors and Reliance having the backing of almost the entire Gunjur community, they were not able to stood between the irresistible The-Pub and the trophy as Malang Ceesay’s first half strike makes all the difference.
It must be said that there are no quarries about the legitimacy of The-Pub triumph in the finals, they just deserve all they got.
From start to finish, The-Pub were unmatched, they looked the far more purposeful, energetic, determined and composed side.
The-Pub were rewarded within the initial 10 minutes of the game, when Abubacarr Demba who often orchestrated the attacking plans, switch the play with a direct long ball from the left wing to the right side of the 18yard box where Malang Ceesay sneak behind the Reliance defence to strike out of the reach of Sainey Trawally in goal.

Reliance Omar Bojang receiving the runners up prize
If not the heroic of Reliance goalkeeper Sainey Trawally, The-Pub would have won the contest with a convincing score line. The teenage goalkeeper did extremely well to grabbed Omar Badjie’s strike in a one on one situation, before magically tipping over Abubacarr Demba’s pile drive from far range.
Another fantastic The-Pub attack was marked by another fantastic Sainey Trawally’s save, a bullet strike from Abubacarr Demba nearly caused havoc as the ball bounces before reaching the goalkeeper, but Sainey a goalkeeper always on high alert manage to tipped the shot which eventually deflected off the crossbar.
Reliance throughout, were not able to find the means to break a solid The-Pub defence, all they were able to manage was a soft header by centre back Lamin Manga which was in fact not troubling.
To The-Pub the glory it is another trophy and winners cash prize of D9, 000, while a consolation of D6, 000 went to the bankers, Reliance.
For Reliance it means another trophy less season, while The-Pub will again be preparing for the Saturday Siffoe derby in Gunjur as they will taking on arch rivals Ecomog FC in the Gunjur league cup finals.
