ENERGETIC YOUNG TEAM WINS ANOTHER TROPHY IN GUNJUR ‘NAWETTAN’

Mighty Ajax FC the youngest team in Gunjur summer football championship (Nawettan) on average, adds another trophy to their cabin as they defeat The-Pub FC in the curtain raiser on Saturday evening.

Forward Ansu Jarju scored the decisive lone goal from the penalty spot on the 12 minutes to separate the two side at Gunjur Nyamina arena.


This tie between Mighty Ajax FC the reigning league champions and The-Pub FC knock-out cup holders from Siffoe village marked the official opening of the 2018/19 Gunjur ‘nawettan’.


It was a final spectators describe as the most attended super cup in the history of Gunjur nawettan, as a high powered delegation led by Musa Susso one of the adviser to president Barrow, Ebrima Ceesay secretary to the cabinet, Lang Tombong Tamba GFF third vice president, joined a huge crowd to grace the occasion.


Ebrima Ceesay took the kick-off to set the ball rolling and the two side clashed in what was their second meeting in a competitive game.


The-Pub FC defeated Ajax last season at the knock-out semi-final stage but, this time around it was a payback moment for the young energetic Ajax team.

The difference in the evening came on the 12 minutes when The-Pub goalkeeper Alieu Ceesay brought down Ajax forward Musa Manneh in the box and goal poacher Ansu Jarju stood firm and slot home the penalty which prove crucial.


From that moment, The-Pub who look the better side shows quality and character in search of an equalizer but they were keep at bay by a resolute young Ajax defence who work hard to ensure their lines are not breach as they hang on to the slender advantage.


The victory for Ajax means they remain the only team in recent Gunjur Nawettan to have lost a single game in ten consecutive outings in the process conceding a single goal. They were handed a trophy and cash amount of seven thousand dalasi’s (D7, 000). While The-Pub went home with a consolation of five thousand dalasi’s (D5, 000).


Even though their side were defeated, but The-Pub fans showed maximum discipline and exercise high spirit of fair play with drumming, singing and dancing after the game.
