Brikama’s superiority in sport prevails over Gunjur again.

Having dominated Gunjur in most sporting activities in previous years, Brikama again defeated Gunjur in athletics yesterday at Gunjur Nyamina arena.

Gunjur Athletic Club were defeated by their fellow athletes from the Brikama Athletic Academy in a competition organised by themselves at their own back-yard.

The events was organised to strengthen the relationship between the two clubs and also to help develop the athletes’ especially the young one’s coming up.

People turned in numbers to grace the occasion, amongst them, members of the Gunjur Sports Committee, members from the Gambia National Athletic Association, national athletes like Lamin Sanneh, Alagie Sonko, Senkan Jobe amongst others.

The competition features several athletes at both the junior and intermediate category, who competed for different events. Several young athletes astonish many with their skill and ability in athletic, as they gave tough time to the intermediate athletes and the Gambia National Athletic junior relay team.

Muhammed Darbo common by the name (T.T Bajo) a junior athlete for Gunjur was outstanding in all his events, even finishes 1st in a relay that features the national relay team. Mustapha Drammeh (Obi) a grade 10 student at Gambia High School, currently the most outstanding athlete at the school, who competed for Gunjur also finish 2nd in a separate race with the national athletes’.

Junior female athletes like Nyima Sanneh (small) and Mbassy Bojang were outstanding in most of their events, finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Mary Da sylva the most outstanding female athlete in the Gunjur team gave tough time to her opponents in the Brikama team, finishing 1st in the 3000 meters race and 2nd in 4x400 meters. The girl who surprises many was the smallest and the youngest athlete on the ground, Fatou M. Touray of Gunjur, a 12 year old primary school student was just incredible against the secondary and senior school athletes, she finished 3rd in the 3000 meters race and 2nd in 2x200m.

The national athletic relay team also competes in the relay race to make the events even more exciting. The Gambia National Athletic relay team includes Sulayman Manneh (2-2-1), Modou Sey, Senkan Jobe and Edrisa. They represents the country in the just concluded Mauritius race, where they won a medal and also qualified for another events to be held in Colombia in two months time.

Brikama athletic team, who had a strong team than Gunjur, dominates most of the events and emerged victorious with 485. Whiles the hosts only managed 377 points.

After the race both camps expresses delight about the events and gave strong promises to help develop athletic in both communities.
